According to Act No. 125/2006 Coll. on Labour Inspection and on amendment of the Act No. 82/2005 Coll. on Illegal Work and Illegal Employment and on amendment of certain acts state administration in the area of labour inspection shall be performed by state administration bodies, which are the Ministry of Labour, Social Affairs and Family of the Slovak Republic, the National Labour Inspectorate and Labour Inspectorates, unless otherwise stipulated by this Act.

The National Labour Inspectorate is a state administration body with a seat in Košice. It shall be a budgetary organisation.

The National Labour Inspectorate shall be managed by, and the activities of which shall be the responsibility of, the general director.
